MAKING MEDIA THAT IS…
Diversity and representation are at the top of everyone’s list, but until you’ve felt betrayed by a film or tv episode that left you out, or stereotyped you, or killed you off, you may not truly comprehend the cultural power of film. Let’s change this and write consciously.
As a visual storytelling medium, film is one of the most immersive arts, making it essential to look beyond filling 44 or 95 minutes of screentime to creating an experience where the audience can become invested.
I approach film with a bit of a scientific mindset. I analyze, I test, and I deduce. I’m three steps ahead looking for the most efficient solution. And with media technologies constantly evolving, it’s crucial to look ahead to the future of this industry in order to have a place in it.
For a medium that serves as escapism to many, film has the power to influence how we see the real world. I want to ensure that the messages we send encourage positive change and open reflections.
Whenever I get stuck on something, I’m like, ‘What would I do if I wasn’t afraid? What would I write if I wasn’t afraid? What would I say in this situation if I wasn’t afraid?’PHOEBE WALLER-BRIDGE
